Visions and values

Our Mission

Our mission is to transform lives, communities, and systems by:

1. Supporting People Through Critical Transitions

Providing trauma-informed, culturally competent, person-centred support for individuals in or leaving the criminal justice system, ensuring they are met with compassion, stability, and opportunity.

2. Building Inclusive, Connected Communities

Creating principled spaces and community-led initiatives that promote recovery, healing, and racial equity, enabling communities to lead solutions that reflect their lived experience.

3. Driving Systemic and Cultural Change

Working with prisons, probation, local authorities, and grassroots organisations to strengthen trust, procedural justice, and anti-racist practice across the system.

4. Elevating Lived Experience and Community Leadership

Embedding the voices, expertise, and leadership of people with lived and living experience into decision-making, design, and delivery.

5. Challenging Inequality and Promoting Fairness

Addressing the structural and cultural barriers that lead to exclusion, disproportionality, and harm—while championing equity, opportunity, and positive futures.

Our Vision

A society where justice, dignity, and belonging are experienced by all—where people impacted by inequality, racism, trauma, or the criminal justice system have the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.

We envision communities and systems that act with integrity, cultural humility, and humanity—creating environments where people feel safe, included, and empowered to lead positive change.

Our Ethos

At bthechange CIC, our ethos is built on humanity, integrity, and community. We believe that meaningful change happens when people are treated with dignity, listened to without judgement, and supported through relationships rooted in trust and respect.

We exist to create spaces—inside communities, institutions, and systems—where people feel safe, valued, and understood. Our work is grounded in lived experience, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practice, ensuring that every intervention is authentic, person-centred, and shaped by those directly affected.

We challenge inequality and racism not only through words, but through consistent action, strengthening the conditions that allow individuals and communities to heal, grow, and lead. We recognise that people thrive when systems are fair, opportunities are accessible, and support is designed with compassion and cultural competence.

Our ethos shapes how we show up, how we work, and how we create impact. It is the compass that guides our relationships, our decisions, and our commitment to building a more just and compassionate society.
